10K Miles of Europe: McGregor, Boorman Ride Vintage Motorcycles Across Continent

A simple journey from Ewan McGregor’s Scottish home to Charley Boorman’s English abode? Not for these two.

These motorhead best mates reunite for 10 episodes in the new Apple TV+ series Long Way Home. For McGregor and Boorman, this means taking a scenic route through 17 countries over 9 weeks, covering roughly 10,000 miles.

The kicker this time isn’t looking at the future, like their previous miniseries, Long Way Up, which featured prototype e-motorcycles. This time, the guys go old-school with refurbished, vintage motorcycles.

Staying Local: Motoring Across Europe

These two best friends and multiday motorcycling junkies dreamed up this latest mini-series during their previous one.

“On a rather tricky, sandy bit of Long Way Up, Charley and I started to daydream about another trip to keep our minds off the scary road at hand!” MacGregor says in the video.

Long Way Up followed their 2019 adventure, in which the friends spent 100 days traveling 13,000 miles on prototype Harley-Davidson LiveWire e-motorcycles. They rode from the southern tip of Argentina all the way to Los Angeles. Their new project is a product of their daydreams and discussions about traveling on old bikes, McGregor says.

“We’ve never properly explored the countries on our own doorstep,” McGregor explains. This time, Boorman says, “We’re doing the journey on vintage, temperamental, 50-year-old bikes.”

McGregor and Boorman’s European adventure spans 10 episodes. They head through gorgeous locales like the North Sea, Scandinavia, up to the Arctic Circle, to the Baltics, and into the Alps before hopping back over the English Channel. Each episode highlights each country’s culture, local cuisine, and adventurous experiences — as well as a few mechanical mishaps.

You can see the Long Way Home journey for yourself on Apple TV+ starting May 9. The previous series, Long Way Round, Long Way Down, and Long Way Up, are all available to stream on Apple TV+.
