The All Terrain Gear by Wrangler collection prioritizes inclusive sizing and flattering silhouettes in its performance apparel.

The legacy denim brand that pivoted from overalls to cowboy-cut jeans continues to evolve its product line. Now, it’s turned its attention to making versatile, price-conscious outdoor apparel.

Wrangler is building upon its denim reputation with its line of ATG by Wrangler shirts, pants, and jackets. They’re “made with a casual look that makes you feel at home no matter where you go.” This year, new women’s apparel showcases the line’s new focus and inclusive sizing.

A Denim Legacy

Wrangler, before it was known by that name, got its start as a denim workwear manufacturer. Its overalls and jackets were worn by workers on the assembly line or the farm — anywhere people valued durable denim.

It began as the Hudson Overall Company and then the Blue Bell Overall Company. In the 1940s, it acquired another workwear company and, with it, the rights to the Wrangler brand name.

In 1946, employees voted to use that name for the newly designed cowboy jeans tailored by Rodeo Ben, a celebrity at the time.

The next year, Wrangler released several prototype jeans that would fit better in the saddle. These denim innovations included felled seams to prevent fraying and rubbing inside, moving the pockets, a new tack in the crotch (instead of a metal rivet), and, of course, a zipper fly.

Since the 1950s, jeans have become a wardrobe staple.

If you’re a denim junkie, go ahead and skim Wrangler’s history on its website. There are also plenty of podcasts and books on the brand’s role in workplaces, rodeos, and runways.

The ATG Difference

What separates All Terrain Gear by Wrangler from the rest? Here’s the quick and dirty:

  • Inclusive sizing (tops in sizes S-XXL, bottoms in sizes 4-20)
  • Based on female silhouettes
  • Moisture-wicking materials
  • Quick-drying
  • UPF 50 rating
  • Water-repellant options available

While the iconic denim still has its diehard fans, Wrangler moved beyond the rugged cotton to create more performance-minded apparel in the outdoor space.

All Terrain Gear by Wrangler positions its design with function, comfort, and flexibility as top priorities. Part of that fit means tailoring to women’s bodies for flattering comfort. And the ATG by Wrangler collection includes top and outerwear sizes ranging from S-XXL, with bottoms sizes 4-20.

The most performance-minded pieces in the collection use stretchy and water-resistant fabrics. Additionally, many of the ATG by Wrangler clothes use fabric that is constructed with UV protection with ratings up to UPF 50, as well as sweat-wicking properties to help them dry fast.

Wrangler wants these design elements to help in hikes, camping, and everyday adventures while keeping true to some of its silhouettes. In other words, the brand doesn’t want you to stick out like a sore thumb when you venture into town.

Cargo Convertible Pant & Performance Tee

The Cargo Convertible Pant has articulated knees for ease of movement and a roll-up leg system to allow for more airflow — or to keep them from snagging on a bicycle chain.

There’s even a reinforced cuff to help prevent fraying in that common wear spot. And a water-repellent treatment should keep these pants dry in a light sprinkle or dewy stroll.

The Performance Tee has a crew neck, a straight hem, and a welt chest pocket. And its stretchy fabric wicks moisture.

Made with all-day comfort in mind, the Cargo Leggings use a stretchy material with sunblocking and quick-dry properties. The leggings have a zip stash pocket at the back of the waist and two cargo pockets on the sides. And again, a panel at the hems protects against scuffs.
