“The Bikepacking Journal” will issue its first bi-annual print publication this October. It promises “130+ pages of the very best in pedal-powered storytelling and photography from around the globe.”
Announced this week, the volume of velo will kick off a joint venture between two popular online publications that cater to bikepackers. Bikepacking.com – a website providing routes, stories, and gear news – has merged with the digital travel magazine, Bunyan Velo. The partnership will launch The Bikepacking Journal as a key incentive for readers to join a new, paid “Bikepacking Collective” member program.
According to the brands, the membership initiative will help fund “a better, more sustainable Bikepacking.com.”

Lucas Winzenburg, founder of Bunyan Velo, will spearhead The Bikepacking Journal as its editor-in-chief. After the first issue goes out in October, the journal will publish every spring and autumn.
“We’ve carefully considered every detail in the journal’s production, from paper stocks, to inks, to finishing techniques,” Winzenburg said. “To this end, it’s our hope that each issue will be a keepsake worth savoring and proudly displaying on the coffee table.”
Would-be readers will need to become sustaining members of the “Bikepacking Collective“. Joining costs $68 per year and comes with a few extra benefits. Collective members receive bike industry discounts and are eligible for members-only gear giveaways. And the journal will provide the first look at stories and content that eventually ends up on Bikepacking’s website.
