Watch ‘THE Gnarliest Day’ of Ben Gravy’s Life: 43 Beach Towns

Did this really happen? The perma-stoked surfer says he paddled out from ‘every beach town’ in New Jersey in one day.

If it’s a wave that’s physically possible to surf, Ben Gravy will surf it. That’s not even a platitude; in fact, the biggest reason he’s famous is that he’s the first person to surf in all 50 states. Yes, that includes Kansas. And as someone who grew up there, I can tell you it’s highly bereft of anything resembling a surfable wave.

So maybe it’s not much of a surprise that Gravy spent a day drifting down the Jersey shore, surfing every single beach burg in the state.

But that doesn’t mean it’s any less fun to watch him do it.

After going to college to be a writer, he got distracted (or saved) by rock climbing and spent most of the next decade on the road, supporting himself with trade work. He's had addresses in the Adirondack Mountains, Las Vegas, and somehow Kansas, but his heart belongs in the Texas hill country.
