The Patagonia R1, Nano-Air, and Down Snap-T are awesome jackets for plummeting fall temperatures. And they’re all on sale.
This past weekend, I was sad but also kind of excited I needed to grab another jacket while camping. Fall brings about awesome foliage, fewer crowds, and low temperatures.
In honor of autumn, I compiled some of my favorite layers from Patagonia. Our team has used them for multipitch climbing, backcountry skiing, and camping.
At first glance, Patagonia gear is really expensive. But we’ve used it for decades and think it’s one brand that’s actually worth the investment. This stuff is super high quality and lasts for a long time — two decades and counting for one base layer!

The R1 is a great choice for a thin layer of warmth. You won’t notice it under jackets, and on its own, it looks great around town.

The Nano-Air works well for high-output activities, like skiing, biking, or hiking. It’s hydrophobic and dries really fast if you sweat in it. And if you wear it without a shell, cool breezes will pull moisture away. Add a shell over it for colder weather as part of a layering system. This popular jacket is versatile and great for fall.
