Ahnu designers know that running or hiking through slush and snow while worrying about soggy socks isn’t the best way to spend a winter day. For those conditions, they made the Firetrail Winter four-season, all-terrain shoe.
With a mesh outer that repels water, the shoe is said to keep out nearly every drop of H2O you encounter — unless you’re standing in a puddle. It isn’t waterproof, but the nylon mesh, as well as each strand before it’s made into mesh, is treated with a Durable Water Resistant (DWR) coating.
The Firetrail Winter uses a proprietary Ahnu system to help keep your foot “aligned and centered” in the shoe, adding to its stability, the company says. It is sold as a “cross-terrain running shoe.” Rear foot stability and shock absorption are touted features. With Vibram outsoles, the shoes have traction for a variety of surfaces, dirt, mud, rock and snow included.
Ahnu’s Firetrail Winter — as well as the women’s version, the Rockridge XTR — are currently available for $120 and $100 respectively. www.ahnufootwear.com
