No trees? No problem! Hang a hammock at the beach, in the yard, or even in the living room. With ENO’s Nomad Hammock Stand suspended bliss can happen anywhere.
I was a little skeptical of ENO’s Nomad when I first saw it. I rarely have a problem finding trees for my hammock. But once I tested it I found myself using it all over.
ENO Nomad Hammock Stand Review ($250)
There were plenty of obvious uses — at the beach and treeless campsites. But it’d also be ideal for desert camping, hammocking above the treeline, or even a backyard without properly spaced trees. I even set it up in my living room so I could relax on a cold, rainy day.
Mobility is by far my favorite thing about the Nomad. Usually, a hang is constrained to trees and wooded areas. Not anymore! Want to be at the water’s edge? Move there. Want to be in direct sunlight? Move there. Too hot and need shade? Move there.
The Nomad is made from aluminum and weighs a solid 15 pounds. It comes in a carrying case reminiscent of a small golf bag. While it is portable. it’s not something I’d carry a considerable distance.
The setup is quick and fairly painless. I’m usually lounging in about two minutes. The poles attach with shock-cord and assembly is similar to a tent. Once it’s all set up, just connect the carabiner on your hammock to the webbing loops and relax.
There are several loops on each side of the Nomad. This lets you choose how tight or loose you want to hang your hammock. It also allows you to use hammocks of different lengths. It works great with an ENO hammock, but really, you should be able to use it with most any brand of hammock.
I tested the Nomad with all the normal hammock camping accessories. It works great with a tarp and bug net. A structural ridgeline isn’t really needed as the horizontal bar atop the Nomad gives a similar result.
Who It’s For
The Nomad is for people who love to hammock but might not have the trees to do it. Those living in urban areas, apartment dwellers, or desert/beach campers would surely benefit from this comfy contraption.
Be warned: At $250 you need to be fully committed to your love for hammocking. Note that a hammock is not included, so if you don’t have one yet be sure factor that into the price.
Overall, this is a great hammock stand. If you really love hammocks and want to be able to hang anywhere, give it some thought.
