Sending “The Fear is Life” route (5.13+ R, M8, W16) on Boulder’s second Flatiron was surely no walk in the park for climbers Atty Phleger and Ben Crawford.

But when they talk about the hazards of weather and avalanches, as well as crawl into a bivy to spend the night, we suspect they are exaggerating the barriers to climbing the iconic slabs to Boulder’s west — or poking fun at the drama inherent in innumerable big-climb films.
