Altra Lone Peak trail running shoes are a popular pick for long-distance hikers. This year, the brand embraced that by giving hikers several options to choose from — with new ingredients and evolved styles, all bundled under the Lone Peak 5 moniker.
This new Lone Peak lineup includes a revamped running shoe, a hiker, and two water-resistant variants. These four styles also introduce the Altra EGO™ midsole foam to give the shoes a more responsive feel on the trail.

The Altra Lone Peak Family
The first thing most people picture when they hear Altra is likely the unique shape of its shoes: roomy toeboxes that allow natural toe splay while running.
Using the brand’s FootShape Comfort design, which factors in biological differences between men’s and women’s feet, these new models are slightly roomier throughout.
This tones down the standout profile and creates a more consistent look than previous models. And all shoes sport a 25mm stack height across the line.
Also new to Lone Peak shoes is the Altra EGO™ foam midsole (used in the Escalante) for a mix of cushioning and firmer responsiveness. Beyond that, the four models form somewhat of a Venn diagram of shared features.
The low-cut models share the grippy MaxTrac™ outsole, while the taller hikers use the denser DuraTread™ outsole. Similarly, the ALL-WTHR shoes, low and mid, have an eVent® bootie liner.
Other carryover features include the canted TrailClaw™ lugs under which a runner’s metatarsal bones should fit.

Lone Peak ALL-WTHR
No need to be afraid of puddles or dewy race starts. The Lone Peak ALL-WTHR’s ($160-170) lows and mids include a weatherproof bootie to keep feet dry from the elements outside while letting any moisture inside escape.

Natural Selection
