Our “From The Field” column gives a quick look at gear in testing from the GearJunkie staff and readers around the country and the world.
The Scene: Darrin Pelham is a remote paramedic working in the oil-exploration industry. He is assigned to a seismic crew in the mountains of Kurdistan, and when crews go to the field to drill, survey, or blast he is there in case anyone gets injured.
The Gear: Last fall, Pelham was one of about 10 GearJunkie readers who won a pair of KEEN Durand boots in a contest. He has put a ton of miles on the Durands, which are a built-in-the-USA model, and had some great notes from the field.
Feedback: “It’s the rainy season here in Kurdistan so there has been a lot of thick, sticky, heavy mud. This month is the worst month for weather and there has been a lot of rain and snow. I have worn the Durand boots in some very diverse terrain and have gone through water and have had no issues with wet feet. On the other hand, I have had no problems with excessive sweat issues in warmer temps. These boots are just awesome all the way around.”
