[leadin]A treehouse is fun for the young (and, we’d argue, the old, too). A new concept offers an ‘instant treehouse’ option.[/leadin]

Treepod

The TreePod is a hanging fort and an acceptable stand-in for the old-fashioned wooden structure of your youth. No hammer or nails needed, just hang it in any tree and get to play.

Made from an aluminum frame and water resistant nylon shell, the TreePod is designed to be hung from a sturdy branch. If no branch is available (desert use comes to mind), an additional frame structure is available as an add-on purchase.

With the ability to hold up to 400 pounds, the TreePod can manage a small crew of children conjuring up a pirate hideout, or mom or dad swaying contentedly in the breeze with a book in hand.

One caveat: The brand does not recommend it being hung more than 4 feet off the ground. This is possibly a liability point, as we’re not seeing limitations to hanging it higher in a tree.

The instant treehouse is available from $235 at Kickstarter now. Buy one for a quick-hanging fort, or invest that money in lumber and hardware, then get a ladder and find a tree — either way, a treehouse in your future is never a bad idea.
