Rhinoceros armor inspired KÜHL’s latest pant design, and now the brand is helping support efforts to save the critically endangered animals.

A combination of woven and knit fabric, dubbed “Rhinotek,” is designed to mimic the movement and protection of rhino hide. It’s the concept behind KÜHL’s Radikl pants.

It’s also the reason behind the brand’s $25,000 donation and ongoing support of non-profits working to protect rhinos. KÜHL partnered with Expedition Art to raise money, in excess of its donation, by selling original artwork at its flagship store. All proceeds go to rhino-preservation work in Zimbabwe.

“The comfort of a sweatpant, with the durability of a work pant,” that’s the aim of KÜHL Radikl hiking pants.

A woven blend of cotton and synthetic stretch fabric provide the framework and performance of a technical pant. But soft, flexible knit panels at the flexion points — knees, crotch, seat, front pockets, and side panels along the thigh — create the feel of a lounging pant.

We tried the pants and can confirm they are comfortable and flexible where needed. We used them hiking, biking, and climbing, and found the Radikl both breathable and surprisingly durable.

Some key features also support the comfort-performance dynamic. Slanted back pockets prevent you from sitting directly on stashed items, like your keys. There are six pockets, including a knee pocket and a hidden phone/wallet pocket along the thigh.

The Radikl pants retail for $89.

Save The Rhinos

KÜHL will sell all remaining Expedition Art prints through its flagship store in Park City, Utah. Currently, only 10 prints of each design are available.
