For the first time on the U.S. market, the M5 sedan will be joined by the Touring (station wagon) variant. U.S. enthusiasts have been asking for hot wagons forever, and until just recently have had very few options. While we still have few options, the 2025 BMW M5 Touring joins the Mercedes AMG E 63 S Wagon and Audi RS 6 Avant on the U.S. market.

Big performance wagons are making a comeback in the U.S.!

The 2025 M5 is the seventh generation of the iconic BMW model. The BMW M5 has been wowing business professionals and well-heeled buyers around the globe since 1984.

The first M5 Touring was built on the E34 chassis (second-generation M5) and debuted in Europe in 1992. The wagon version of the car has never been sold new in the U.S., but that will all change for the 2025 model year.

The new M5, sedan and touring, will feature an M Hybrid powertrain. BMW says it will be “closely related to the one found in the BMW M Hybrid V8 GTP race car.” What that means is that it will likely have a twin-turbo 4.4L V8, electric motor, and a plug. That combo should put out well over 700 horsepower.

While the car gets more get up and go, we also expect it to need the extra grunt. It is likely to be longer, wider, and heavier than the current M5. The added battery pack won’t help the weight any.

Pricing is also likely to be well north of $110,000 for the 2025 BMW M5 Touring. Big luxury performance wagons don’t come cheap, so that is really no shocker.

The Wagon Is Coming

Testing on the 2025 BMW M5 Touring is already well underway, and it has now entered the “practical phase.” What that means is road and track testing around the world is already in progress.

We’ll see more and more of this hot new wagon revealed throughout the year, with production starting in the fourth quarter. No word yet on when it will hit U.S. shores. But, I’m super-excited to have another performance wagon option on the U.S. market!
