At this week’s Consumer Electronics Show, Chevrolet unveiled the Equinox EV. It also confirmed a Blazer EV is coming. Both are set to debut in 2023.

The EV additions strengthen Chevrolet’s coming electric options, continuing to build out a more sustainable and attainable automotive vision for future drivers.

Sadly, little information was announced about either new battery-electric compact SUV. But we do know they will both be built on GM’s new Ultium Platform. This underpins its wide range of fully electric vehicles.

We already know the Ultium EV architecture — with its skateboard-like design of floor-mounted batteries —  sets the electric foundation for other GM products. These include the GMC Hummer EV, Cadillac Lyriq, and just-revealed Chevy Silverado EV.

We don’t know the mileage range that will be offered in the new Equinox or Blazer. But we do know that GM claims a 300-plus-mile range on Ultium Platform vehicles.

However, the current vehicles are considerably larger than the compact Equinox and Blazer models. Because of this, we predict a 200-plus-mile range for these new models.

The new Chevy EV compact crossovers/SUVs will compete directly with the Ford Mustang Mach-E (224- to 314-mile range) and the Tesla Model Y (244- to 330-mile range).

Here are the details we know so far about both of these forthcoming EVs from Chevrolet.

With a starting price of around $30,000, the 2023 Chevrolet Equinox EV looks to be one of the most affordable over-200-mile-range EVs on the market.

In spring 2023, the Equinox EV will be released in both fleet and retail versions, including popular LT and RS trims.

“The Equinox has always played an important role for Chevrolet as the second-highest-selling brand nameplate,” said Steve Hill, Chevrolet vice president.

“Providing an affordable EV option in the industry’s highest-volume segment proves Chevy is going to make EVs available to everyone.”

We have little doubt the 2023 Blazer EV will have very similar styling to the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer on the market now, shown here. The big grille for cooling the engine will obviously not be needed. This will likely change on the new EV; (photo/Chevrolet)

Chevy has released even less information about the new Blazer EV. And unfortunately, no images have been released just yet either. Further, the Blazer has become one of the bestselling Chevrolet crossover models. In our opinion, it’s no surprise it’s one of the first to get the full-electric treatment.

The Blazer EV will hit showrooms in fall 2023, and the Equinox EV comes in spring 2023.
