This weekend, Mt. Norquay in Banff became the first ski resort to open in Canada.
Mt. Norquay isn’t the biggest, or oldest, or highest-elevation ski resort in Canada. But unlike all others, it is open. The ski hill opened the weekend of October 24 and 25 — the earliest opening in the resort’s 95-year history.
“We would like to thank everyone for skiing with us this weekend our earliest opening weekend ever!” wrote Mt. Norquay’s resort team on Facebook. “It was a huge success and we’re very happy with everyone for being respectful of our new COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions.”
The resort got over a half-meter (about 1.5 feet) of snow in the past two weeks, Western Canada’s SnowSeekers reported.
“We are open!” proclaims the resort’s website. And the early snowfall isn’t just awesome for those in Banff. Two other Canada ski resorts are hoping to open before the end of the month.
And given the recent snowfall in a few Western U.S. states, hopefully, your favorite stateside resort will soon follow.
