Authorities said Moriah Wilson’s death does not appear to be random and have reportedly issued an arrest warrant for a suspect.
Austin, Texas, police have charged local cyclist Kaitlin Marie Armstrong, 34, with first-degree murder in the death of fellow cyclist Moriah “Mo” Wilson. The Austin Municipal Court has issued a warrant for Armstrong’s arrest.
Wilson was 25. She died from multiple gunshot wounds she suffered inside an Austin residence on May 11. At the time, the burgeoning gravel racer was visiting the city for the Gravel Locos race. On May 18, authorities obtained a search warrant for the home, located in east Austin.
Now, the Boston Globe obtained an affidavit that says Wilson went swimming with a male cyclist in the hours before her death. Later, it said, an SUV belonging to a woman who lives with that male cyclist was seen leaving the house where Wilson was murdered. The Globe did not use the male’s name.
The affidavit said Wilson was shot multiple times with a 9mm handgun.
The male cyclist, in an interview with police the day after the murder, said he and the woman he lives with both own 9mm guns.
According to the Globe, he stated that he usually keeps at least one gun inside a case in the residence and has never shot it. He said he has two different types of ammunition, which he described as practice ammunition and “kill” ammunition.
GearJunkie’s Mark Wilson reported Kaitlin Armstrong recorded her last ride on Strava the day Wilson died.
