Calling all nonprofit cycling organizations with a mission to improve the lives of youth: Outride is still accepting applications from nonprofit organizations that align with its mission of improving participants’ social, emotional, and cognitive health through cycling. And if that’s not already enticing for those with existing programs, Outride will no longer require organizations to contribute 1:1 matching funds.
“While matching grants were a good way to stoke community involvement in the fundraising process, we wanted to simplify the process for prospective grantees and lower the barrier to receiving funds,” said Chazz Robinson, Outride fund program manager. “This change will allow awarded organizations to receive funds more quickly and start creating an impact on a more predictable timeline.”
The application cycle is still open, and orgs have until Feb. 6, 2023, to apply.
Since 2019, Outride has been a strong advocate in the cycling community by providing more than $1.5 million to over 170 youth cycling projects nationwide. Such initiatives frequently fund trails, pump tracks, rider education, workforce learning, after-school activities, and more.
“One of the most incredible components of getting an Outride Fund grant is not only the impact that the funds provide, but also becoming a part of the Outride community” stated Tasha Tinagero, Outride manager of strategic partnerships. “We have seen impressive impacts come out of cross-collaboration between our grantees and partners, something unique to our program within the cycling industry.”
In 2022, the Outride Fund granted up to $15,000 to aid organizations like OutCycling Fearless Flyers, The Center of Southwest Culture, Community Bike Works, WashCo Bikes, and California Field School.
These programs assisted young participants in overcoming health challenges, provided skills training, and aimed to foster self-confidence and leadership.
How to Apply
The Process
- Submit a detailed proposal with your application before February 6.
- Provide additional information upon request from Outride Staff/Grant Committee.
- If necessary, meet with Outride Staff/Grant Committee to share more information.
- If awarded, submit a mid-term progress report and final impact report.
The Timeline
- Jan. 6-Feb. 6: Application window
- Feb. 13-Mar. 13: Outride grant committee reviews applications and selects recipients
- Mar./Apr. 2023: Grant Award notifications and distributions begin
- Mar./Apr 2024: Grant recipients submit final impact report
