Patagonia’s newest pop-up shop is breathing life back into apparel worn beyond repair.
Patagonia’s Worn Wear program — what used to be a sprinkling of pop-up events — will now be a bigger and more permanent facet of Patagonia with its Boulder, Colorado, shop location.
A simple slogan goes a long way, and Patagonia’s new Worn Wear shop lives by the following: “These clothes are made from other clothes.” In a world where we’re increasingly worried about ocean plastics, pollution, and manufacturing emissions, it’s nice to know that a company is making an effort to change that by recycling clothes.
The Worn Wear shop is pretty much Patagonia’s personal consignment store. You can trade in, repair, and shop for used items.
Patagonia’s Worn Wear Collection (which you can also find online) offers a selection of used products the brand buys back from customers, washes, mends, and redesigns. So far, the collection features everything from NanoPuff jackets to vests, pants, and trail packs. Customers who choose to trade in items at the Worn Wear shop will receive credit toward new gear.
But the upcycling process isn’t easy — clothes that are beyond repair are disassembled and pieced together to make other products. Patagonia takes materials like reclaimed nylon rain-shell fabric and recycled cotton to make travel bags, toolkits, and more. Items like these are part of the ReCrafted Collection.
“Patagonia repairs more than 100,000 items each year in 72 repair centers globally,” read today’s press release.
Visit the Worn Wear Shop
Today, the shop will host a grand opening and Worn Wear Pop-Up Party from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with food and music. Patagonia’s Worn Wear pop-up shop is located at 1212 Pearl Street, Boulder, Colorado.
