Two major PFD brands — MTI and Mustang Survival — are merging to bring more paddlesports gear to the market.

Massachusetts-based gear brand MTI (Marine Technologies International) has just merged with Canada-based Mustang Survival. “2 brands 1 passion,” announced both brands online. The merger marries a highly focused PFD brand with deep roots to a technically savvy manufacturer of a broader spectrum of marine products.

In the merger, MTI brings to the table a family-owned company with a long history. In 1991, Yoshi and Dorothy Takashina founded the brand outside of Boston, Massachusetts. Highly specialized, it designs and builds U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets so people can better enjoy their time on the water.

Pair that with Mustang Survival’s knowledge of more technical gear, like inflatable buoyancy products and paddle apparel, and the result should be a match made in watersports heaven.

“Combining the technical engineering of Mustang Survival with the design and development of MTI Adventurewear will provide a platform to build world-class whitewater, rescue, and guide level product,” said Josh Horoshok, Mustang Survival VP of Recreation Product.

“It will be a catalyst that drives us forward to achieving our vision of being a podium brand in this high-growth category.”

MTI, Mustang Survival Merger: What Will Change

Mustang Survival’s current products include insulated suits, dry bags, gloves, and more. The brand MTI makes products like doggie life vests and flotation accessories. And, of course, both brands have a huge lineup of recreational and technical PFDs.

In the process of the merger, MTI’s online ordering and shipping are on hold. The PFD brand will be moving and joining Mustang Survival’s system of operations.

“The merger between MTI and Mustang Survival allows us to enhance our collective offerings,” reads Mustang’s press release. Paddlers and consumers can look forward to more products in categories like offshore sailing, angling, paddling, and more.
