RAM’s parent company recalled about 1.4 million pickup trucks worldwide due to misaligned striker plates in the tailgates.
If you own a 2019-2022 model year RAM pickup — or if you end up following one on the road — listen up.
The Associated Press today reported that RAM parent company Stellantis recalled 1.4 million trucks worldwide due to a possible tailgate malfunction. The gates may fail to close completely, and if that happened, cargo could spill onto the road.
Stellantis, formerly Fiat Chrysler, said that striker plates on the pickups may not be lined up right to allow complete closure. Stellantis was not aware of any related crashes or injuries as of Nov. 22, per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Stellantis’ recall covers RAM 1500, RAM 2500, and RAM 3500 trucks in the affected model years. Over 1.2 million of the recalled trucks are in North America, according to the NHTSA.
The NHTSA said Stellantis expects to mail notification letters to owners of affected vehicles on Jan. 27, 2023. Dealers will inspect the tailgate striker alignment to the box latch and adjust it if necessary, free of charge.
