Amp Up Your Ice Fishing: StrikeMaster Offers 3 Electric Auger Options

Ice fishing doesn’t have to start with the noise and smoke of a gas engine. StrikeMaster’s lineup of electric ice augers offers a quiet, rechargeable way to cut through inches of ice.

These augers don’t stink. Say goodbye to the stench of engine exhaust and check out the power of electric motors.

The 40V ice auger and its 24V “little brother” can both drill up to 100 holes through 16 inches of ice on a single charge — 100 8-inch holes with the 40V and 100 6-inch holes with the 24V. Looking for something more simple? The Lite-Flite Lazer connects to your cordless home drill for a cost-effective way to get yourself out on the ice.

What would you rather do: put your auger on a charger before heading out, or have to stop at a gas station every time you head for the hardwater? Saving time and money appeals to us.

Getting through thick ice efficiently and dropping lines in the water is what everyone wants. In the past, this involved a two-stroke engine that could handle a big auger drill.

But cordless batteries have come a long way, and StrikeMaster trusts these to rip up ice just like its gas-powered models.

What’s more, the brand has responded to winter anglers who asked for a lighter, more mobile option on the ice.

These three drill options are built for different uses (and ice), from ultra-portable to heavy-duty.

StrikeMaster Lite-Flite Lazer Drill Unit

A light-and-fast option for ice drilling, the Lite-Flite Lazer connects to any professional-grade 18V (or higher) cordless electric drill with a half-inch chuck. It also works with a StrikeMaster ice auger powerhead. And to cut through ice, this unit uses serrated stainless steel Lazer blades.

For stability, the Lazer Drill Unit has a steel hex shaft and a reinforced “T” connection to the carriage. There’s also a feature that steadies the drill while you’re pushing through the ice. At 4.4 pounds, the Lite-Flite is 1.6 pounds lighter than the brand’s next-lightest 6-inch auger drill.

Weight: 4.4 lbs. with 6″ auger; 5.3 lbs. with 8″ auger
Price: $180; $200

Lithium 24V Auger

This is StrikeMaster’s compact but capable full auger that can bore up to 100 holes. It can run forward and in reverse, and it includes a deadman safety switch with its power button. Impact-resistant handles assist with steadier drilling when the going gets tough.

The powerhead is an electric DC brushless mother with a 50:1 gear ratio. The 24V lithium-ion battery comes with a status indicator and a control system to help prolong its life. StrikeMaster says there’s enough juice in there to drill 100 holes with a 6-inch auger (or 50 holes with an 8-inch auger) before it needs to be recharged — which only takes 2 hours.

Weight: 13.3 lbs. with 6″ auger; 14.3 lbs. with 8″ auger
Price: $380; $400

Lithium 40V Auger

This is the biggest electric auger StrikeMaster makes. A 40V 5Ah lithium-ion battery provides the engine’s torque and power. It recharges in 2.5 hours.

Like the 24V auger, it has stainless steel Lazer blades, ergonomic handles, and deadman and power switches with four LED indicators. The planetary gear system has a 15.9:1 gear ratio.

Weight: 24 lbs. with 8″ auger; 27 lbs. with 10″ auger
Price: $550; $570

Electric ice augers offer a way to get through thick ice without the sound and smell of a gas-powered motor. That means fewer refills — and spills — which is inherently better for the environment.

You’ll spend less time making runs to gas stations and more time jigging for your next catch. Additionally, switching from gas to electricity cuts down on maintenance when you store the auger for the warmer months.

Of note, StrikeMaster offers a Limited 2-Year Manufacturer’s Warranty on its motors, batteries, and chargers.
