The future has arrived, and it’s now possible to experience the great outdoors from the comfort of your La-Z-Boy chair with 3D ski films like Teton Gravity Research’s “Light The Wick”. The DVD comes complete with 3D glasses. But if you want to stay super tech in your living room, Oakley just released its first “optically-correct” 3D glasses, the Oakley 3D Gascan.
Oakley worked with film-industry giant DreamWorks on the project. The glasses, according to a press release and a quote from Oakley’s CEO Colin Bade, have “unparalleled visual clarity” while also “extending the wearer’s peripheral viewing angle and providing truer alignment of 3D images.”
The Gascan is touted as a safer 3D experience, too — wearers no longer have to worry about pesky paper cuts on their ears. Funny, yes. But at $120, Oakley isn’t joking with the glasses. It comes in two frame colors, either black or white. They will work in both home and traditional theaters, as long as the films are shot in 3D.
The moviegoer glasses are available at Sunglass Hut, Oakley Stores and online at Oakley.com and Zappos. Caveat: Despite “Light The Wick” by TGR, the Gascans are not intended for outdoors use. Oh wait, the real world is already in “3D.” No glasses required.
