Five K2 boarders from Japan come together for the first time to snowboard and film in Tateyama. Located in Nakaniikawa District, Toyama Prefecture, Japan, Tateyama is nearly 10,000 feet and receives some of the most abundant snowfall in the world. It’s also one of the few accessible alpine areas in Japan.
Due to its harsh winters, Tateyama is only open from November to March. But the reward of getting out there when the snow’s a-plenty is worth all the effort. The views are mind-blowing, the “japow” is plentiful, and the snowboarding is on another level.
It’s no wonder this extreme location sparked interest from K2 athletes. Takaoki, Yu Takeo, Ryuji Takai, Taro Tamai, Masato Morikawa, and Toshitaka Nakamura made the pilgrimage with their film crew to make this edit. Together they explore the region, ripping through stunning visuals of the Japanese landscape.
