Grey and white pattern is meant to mask movement

Olympic mogul skiers face a unique set of challenges. Not only must they blaze down a really tough bump run at amazing speed, they must also look smooth and stylish along the way.

Judges want mogul skiers to appear completely calm as they charge over the mountain’s most challenging terrain at incredible speed.

The moguls course in Sochi

To help mask body movement, Columbia Sportwear developed a custom “snow camou?age” pattern for the Team USA uniforms that mimics the look of moguls using gray tones to break up white space.

The theory of the design is that it will disguise movement and make the athletes look smoother when they thump down the mogul runs in Sochi.

Will it help? Well, you (and the judges) can be the judge. The women’s moguls finals take place beginning at 7 a.m. in Russia on Saturday and will be aired on NBC during the 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. time slot on Saturday night in the U.S. —Sean McCoy
