When Belgian-based startup Classified first released its Powershift hub in 2020, many industry observers called the innovative system a ‘gamechanger.’

This geared hub shifts quickly, even under full power and on rugged terrain, and combines the benefits of both 1x and 2x systems, eliminating the need for a front derailleur and double chainring.

Bike manufacturers worldwide have quickly taken notice of the Powershift system’s advantages. And now Allied Cycle Works has become the latest company to partner with Classified.

Based in Arkansas, Allied Cycle Works has established an OEM partnership with Classified to offer the ABLE gravel bike with the newer company’s Powershift hub.

Drew Medlock, CEO of Allied Cycle Works, said in the company’s press release:

We’ve been really impressed with the performance and simplicity of the Powershift hub. It eliminates the compromise when selecting a 1x or 2x system, and it’s the most exciting development in bike drivetrain since electronics hit the market.

Gravel riding demands quick-shifting transitions and reliability. The Classified system just performs better than a traditional 2x with front derailleur for our applications.

Cyclists can now choose a Powershift option when building their personalized ABLE Classified Force AXS. This model includes all of Allied’s other options, including component sizes, upgrades, and custom paint jobs.

Allied joins a growing list of bike companies partnering with Classified, including Ridley, Jaegher, Rose Bikes, Isaac, Pilot Cycles, and Officine Mattio, which in January 2022 announced a carbon road racing bike with the Powershift system.

While the Powershift hub remains a pricey upgrade, the benefits remain clear. As Bikerumor wrote in July 2021: “The innovative Classified Powershift system delivers incredibly fast wireless electronic shifts inside the rear hub, even under full power, to eliminate the front derailleur without compromising on gearing.”
