In an era that often rewards speed and efficiency over mastery, Murray Carter practices a centuries-old craft. The 17th Generation Yoshimoto Bladesmith works out of his shop, Carter Cutlery, in Hillsboro, OR.

Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he traveled to Japan when he was 18 years old and stayed there for half his life. He apprenticed under a Japanese bladesmith for 6 years. In this video, Murray tells his story and discusses the importance of pursuing one’s dreams.
