Ten years ago, Columbia developed Omni-Heat technology. The platform now underlies many of the brand’s insulating product lines. And on Oct. 10, Columbia will commemorate it with a full day of celebrity Instagram Live sessions, guided workouts, gear tips, and more. It also offered a tiny peek at what’s next for the technology.
Whether it’s a reflective lining or “warm nano fuzzies,” Columbia’s patented Omni-Heat tech works by reflecting the wearer’s body heat back. In fact, it’s proven such a hit for the brand, Omni-Heat and its offshoot, Omni-Heat 3D, have graced everything from base layers to gloves, boots, and even replica Star Wars jackets.
And that innovation officially turns 10 years old on Oct. 10. So to celebrate, Columbia will host a day of virtual appearances, information sessions, and remote activities. But perhaps most intriguing of all, the brand told us it has another big announcement on the “next evolution of Omni-Heat.”
Columbia Omni-Heat Anniversary
Let’s not bury the lead — the next big thing from Columbia, we’re told, will be Black Dot. While the brand isn’t releasing any more info than that, it did confirm the public will get to see the new tech on Oct. 14 (you can see the official countdown here). Stay tuned, as we’ll report on that as soon as we’re able.
But to hold everyone over — or possibly just build anticipation — the brand has an entire day dedicated to Omni-Heat. On Saturday, Columbia will treat Instagram followers to a rotating platform of guests and talks.
It all kicks off at 8 a.m. Pacific with an anniversary video. After that, Dr. Haskell Beckham, head of Columbia’s innovation team, will walk through the tech and discuss how to best gear up for winter pursuits. There will also be a pre-hike workout session, and GirlTrek, the “largest health organization for African American women and girls” in America, will host a discussion on diversity in the outdoors.
Columbia-sponsored skier Sarah Hoefflin, country music artist Luke Combs, and Columbia’s newest athlete, NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace, will also sign on during the day via recorded video and livestreams.
To take part, tune into @Columbia1938 on Instagram. And keep an eye out on Oct. 14 for our rundown of Black Dot, the latest tech from Columbia.
