Columbia’s OutDry Extreme is one of our favorite waterproof-breathable materials. It’s a unique fabric that doesn’t wet out and beads on the surface. And now it’s on sale.

OutDry does a stellar job of avoiding the dreaded wet-out. Water beads off the surface forever. We’ve used it from Alaska to Mexico and everywhere in between with great results. So when it goes on sale in jackets, we’re always ready to pounce.

Right now, the OutDry Ex ECO Rain Shell is more than half off. The outer is waterproof, and the inside is made of 100 percent recycled fabric that’s breathable despite the armor on top. Even in the long-cut jacket’s limited “undyed white” color option, it may not last long.

“Because I test jackets all winter, I have about 30 in my closet. And this is probably the one I reach for most, especially for cold days of lift-served skiing,” said Editor-In-Chief Sean McCoy.

He highly recommends this jacket for downhill skiers looking for a coat of armor against the biting winds of winter on the mountain. We’re not alone in our love of this jacket: It also has a nearly perfect five-star rating on Columbia’s website.
