You’ll likely want to get in Mountain Khakis’ pants. While the company is a little behind the curve, Mountain Khakis — founded in 2003 and known for its rugged, natural-fiber pants — has created a synthetic pant line. The 100-percent nylon pants will dry quickly, wick sweat, and they have UVA and UVB protection, according to the company.

While women only get two nylon options — pants and shorts — guys get a zip-off convertible pant as well. All come in fixed-waist sizes ranging from 32 to 42 inches with inseams from 30 to 34 inches (men) and waist sizes of 0 to 16 for the gals (with an inseam of 32 or 34 inches).

With a relaxed fit and “performance” or technical features, you should be able to move easily no matter if you’re chopping wood, scrambling through a slot canyon or backpacking the Appalachian Trail.

When I think of durable pants I don’t think of nylon, but the company seems to know what it’s doing in that category. The Snake River shorts, pants and convertibles, which come in khaki and gray, will be available in February 2010 for $55, $73 and $80 respectively. www.mountainkhakis.com
