We built a custom jacket last week as a preview to the Eddie Bauer launch. In our review, it was as easy as clicking tabs and choosing colors from a palette, including a rainbow of tones and camouflage prints, too.

The company notes there are more than 1 million design configurations with the template, which includes switchable shoulders, body, inner lining, side stretch panels, zippers, and logos. Try it out here.

Custom Down Puffy

The custom outerwear, made for men and women, is based on the company’s MicroTherm StormDown Jacket, which has been around since 2011. It’s a high-end piece, including a light DWR ripstop shell fabric, stretch panels, and 800-fill down insulation for warmth.

Eddie Bauer, the man, not the company, was an inventor of “America’s original down jacket,” which came to market more than 90 years ago. The MicroTherm StormDown Jacket is an evolution of the decades-old design, though much lighter, warmer, and more resistant to weather.

The custom jackets cost $279 for the hooded version, and the non-hooded is $249.

It’s online here. You can try it at Eddie Bauer stores, too, including in eight locations: Fifth Avenue (NYC), Post St (SF), Park Meadows (CO), Fashion Place (UT), Oakbrook (IL), Bellevue Square (WA), Natick (MA) and Easton (OH).

Custom Process

The customizing option is a fun upgrade and something that applies to the fashion, not form, of the jacket. It’s an aesthetics play, as the materials are all the same as on the original MicroTherm StormDown Jacket.

Give it a try on their site, where you can add a pink hood, a yellow zipper, and a camo jacket body… or, perhaps, a more classic look, a monogram included on the sleeve and your name stitched inside.

The company notes the puffy jackets are the first customizable product Eddie Bauer will launch, with more to come in 2016.
