Sarah Stubbe is a contributing writer of Gear Junkie and self-proclaimed outdoor junkie.
Stubbe has been an athlete nearly her entire life and constantly strives to better understand and appreciate new and exciting technologies in the industry. She feels that this is an important aspect of staying fit, healthy, and safe in all types of environments. In addition to GearJunkie, Stubbe’s full-time job keeps her busy seven days a week, and yet she still manages to get outside almost all of those days, sometimes at the expense of a good night’s sleep.
Based in Colorado, Stubbe is an avid skier, mountain/gravel biker, trail runner, and chaser of her favorite outdoor pal, her son. She also is in constant pursuit of a perfect Paloma.
Growing up an athlete and now a habitual one, Stubbe’s youth pursuits consisted of organized activities such as swimming, track, soccer, and volleyball. Turning down a swimming scholarship, Stubbe moved to Florida to attend college and took to surfing on the East Coast in between her studies. After five years, she moved to West Virginia and quickly learned that whitewater kayaking was something that came naturally as a professional, competitive athlete. In 1999 she moved to Crested Butte where she discovered that skiing, mountain biking, and kayaking were abundant enough to keep her challenged and preoccupied for several years.
Moving through the mountains, and staying active and healthy throughout the seasons are important to Stubbe. Her career as an Administrator for local hospital outpatient and surgical clinics in the Gunnison Valley are priority during the week; however, the time prior to and after work, and on the weekends are solely set aside for keeping up with her 12-year old son and maintaining her mental and physical fitness. Stubbe believes that proper and appropriate tools and gear, as well as understanding current and future technology as it relates to gear are essential in avoiding injury and truly appreciating all that the outdoors has to offer.
I enjoy all things related to outdoor endeavors, including writing about and reviewing the most current technologies in the industry. Because so much of my free time is spent outside, I feel it is important to understand and appreciate gear and equipment on the market for safety, motivation, and comfort. I hope to be able to reveal important and sometimes different perspectives, especially from a female standpoint.
