If any industry knows what it’s like for the rubber to meet the road — or any other surface — it’s the tire industry. BFGoodrich expands that knowledge into a technical fishing shoe.

In partnership with Bass Pro Shops, BFGoodrich announced its World Wide Sportsman Grip Current Fishing Shoes for men.

“BFGoodrich enables performance, whether it’s rugged all-terrain tires that help anglers drive to the hardest-to-reach off-road fishing spots, tires that bring reliability on cross-country road trips, or shoes that keep you secure on the deck of a fishing boat,” said Tom Jupena, director of brand licensing for BFGoodrich.

And the brand appears to apply performance in spades with this new release.

At $70, the price point on these kicks isn’t too much of a pain for your wallet. And it incorporates everything from an odor-fighting Ageon lining to comfort fit technology and a perforated lining and soles that allow drainage.

The soles are non-marking, so they won’t stain your boat deck. BFGoodrich built the sole for traction on wet decks. Grooves and siping allow water to evacuate laterally from the bottom of the shoe. That technology — used by BFGoodrich to improve tire performance in wet conditions  — aims to give anglers a lock on the deck.

The trend of tire companies applying hard-won knowledge to footwear isn’t altogether new. Goodyear has its own line of lifestyle, work, and outdoor shoes. And Michelin recently partnered with Orvis in developing a sole for the PRO Wading Boot, which is impressive in hand.

We’ll keep an eye on these as the tire juggernaut edges into the fishing footwear world.
