Bike theft is a serious crime, one that is going to cost a Colorado man up to 10 years in prison.
John Samson of Boulder, Colo., was arrested on March 20, 2014. He was convicted of stealing 45 bikes with an aggregate value of $100,000.
Police said he stole bikes from across the Boulder area, including from students on the University of Colorado campus.
The conviction is a bit of a bright spot in the world of bike theft, in which few suspects are apprehended and even fewer bikes are recovered. Samson refused to tell police what he did with the bikes.
Samson was also charged with one count of Third Degree Burglary, one count of Criminal Trespass, and one count of Criminal Mischief. He will be eligible for parole in 2019.
