Capped with Vibram’s stickiest rubber yet, Giro’s Riddance line showcases shoe styles designed for time on and off the bike.

For power transfer and control, it’s tough to beat cleats. But for bombing downhill, flat-soled, tacky kicks are the way to go. And with the launch of the Riddance line, Giro has these speed demons in mind.

Released today, the Riddance, Riddance Women’s, and Riddance Mid boast Vibram Megagrip ISR, the grippiest compound from the brand. Plus, the shoes carry a street sneaker style, making them equally appealing around town.

“As someone who grew up racing downhill, I was used to riding clipped in,” said Giro Marketing Director Dain Zaffke. “But, like so many riders, I’ve spent more and more time during the past few years running flat pedals. The new Riddance is exactly the kind of shoe I’ve been looking for.”

A dotted tread pattern pocks the sole, providing contact points and grooves for pedal bite. Standard shock-dampening EVA foam midsoles will cushion your feet on rough terrain. And water-resistant microfiber fleece constitutes the upper.

Two styles make up the Riddance family: a low in both women’s and men’s as well as a mid. Both styles sport a lace-up design, but the mid carries a “power strap” (read loop and Velcro) at the ankle for greater stability. In addition to its function, the strap adds a distinctively retro style reminiscent of high-top sneakers from the late ’80s to early ’90s.

Giro also added rubber along the toe and heel. Reinforced construction, dubbed “Rockprint,” is applied to the upper for added durability.

The shoes carry an advertised weight of 430 grams (15.1 ounces) for the Riddance low, and 445 grams (15.7 ounces) for the mids (size 10.5).
