If you’re anything like me, replacing lost or damaged water bottles is a frequent problem — and especially frustrating to the goal of foregoing single-use plastic.

To both of those ends, Velocio and Bivo have teamed up this week to launch a collaboration steel bike bottle, all proceeds of which go to the environmental nonprofit 1% for the Planet.

Velocio and Bivo join that pledge, donating 1% of profits henceforth in addition to all proceeds from this bottle. And they said they hope more bike companies will follow suit.

“There’s no silver bullet to the climate crisis. Marginal gains we’ve made include our biodegradable packaging, recycled and biodegradable sourcing for our clothing, socially and environmentally responsible manufacturing — the list goes on,” Velocio Co-founder Brad Sheehan said in a news release. “Working with Bivo to reduce plastic waste and support 1% for the Planet is one more step in the right direction.”

The stainless steel water bottle costs $34, has a 21-ounce capacity, fits standard bottle cages, and includes two low-profile cage screws to help protect its finish.

The “high-flow” nozzle comes with design help from NASA engineers to offer a flow similar to plastic bike bottles, the companies claimed. It also comes with a BPA-free polypropylene lid, and food-grade silicone components.

However, keep in mind this isn’t an insulated bottle and won’t work with hot beverages.

“Stripped to the essentials, the raw bottle minimizes extra materials, finishes, and colors in favor of a laser-etched pattern that brings the intent of the collaboration all the way through the design,” the release said.

It’s also 100% recyclable. Find it at Bivo or at Velocio.

Bivo Metal Bike Bottle: No Mold, No Squeeze, No Suck

We’re not saying that it takes an ex-NASA engineer to make a metal bike bottle that won’t rattle in a standard bike cage, but that’s who Bivo hired to make the Bivo One. Read more…
