A new generation of Japanese cyclists discovers the joy of gravel riding in the culturally rich port of Sakai City.
In a small shop in Sakai City, Shouichi Soukawa is “building the future of gravel cycling in Japan.”
That’s what Shimano wrote in the description for its latest video. The bike company’s short documentary shines a light on Corner Bikes, where Soukawa has quickly built a reputation for his excellent gravel frames.
After learning steel frame production in Tokyo, Soukawa moved back to Sakai City, a longtime center of industrial steel production. Despite its roots, the city also boasts a rich arts scene, and Soukawa feels inspired most by visual artists and musicians.
