Arc’teryx’s newest film follows an unlikely duo up an iconic route on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park.

Young climber Jordan Cannon, just 26 years old, has teamed up with 63-year-old legendary climber Mark Hudon for a once-in-a-lifetime climb. In this short film, the two climbers attempt an all-free ascent Freerider on El Capitan.

Each of them has separate goals, but they unite to help each other achieve them (and have some fun climbing along the way). “Let’s go rock climbing!” Hudon exuberantly shouts into the canyon as they hike the approach. From the get-go of this film, you see two completely different personalities.

Cannon, who’s climbed major routes and performed linkups with Alex Honnold, is in it to crush it. And on the other hand, you’ve got Hudon, an insane climber who’s already accomplished a ton and is out there to have fun.

Cannon’s goal? To complete an all-free ascent of the Freerider route on El Cap in a day. Hudon’s goal? To free the route with Cannon, and in doing so, become the oldest guy to free climb El Cap. Will they make it? Watch to find out.

Sam Crossley and Mary Jeanes filmed and produced “Free as Can Be.” The film premiered yesterday at the Arc’teryxDigital Climbing Academy. To check out more upcoming film premieres, click here.
