Two new knives from a Montana collaboration bring an American-made edge to the hands of hunters.

It’s always exciting to see what two brands can do when they put their heads together. And this collaboration between FORLOH and Montana Knife Company is no exception. Both brands are dedicated to putting high-quality gear into the hands of hunters, and a new pair of knives from the collab is now available for purchase.

FORLOH is a newer face on the hunting gear scene, and it makes all of its hunting gear stateside. Based in Whitefish, Mont., its effort is focused on state-of-the-art, high-tech gear. And its product line is quickly expanding.

The collaboration with Montana Knife Company brings custom and local knifemaking to the FORLOH collection. Master bladesmith Josh Smith owns and runs MKC, lending his expertise to every knife that comes out of the shop.

The Blackfoot Blade ($300) designates itself as an all-purpose backcountry knife whereas The Speedgoat Blade ($225) is an even lighter alternative for high-mountain sheep and goat hunters.

Both knives feature tough and durable 52100 high-carbon blade steel. Long-term edge retention sits top of mind with this type of steel, originally designed for use in bearings.

Full-tang construction lends to the durable build, and a Parkerized black finish on each knife eliminates glare and corrosiveness. And a full flat-ground, straight-point blade keeps the utilitarian nature of the knife general and flexible.

Where the knives differ is in the handle construction. The Blackfoot (pictured above) is a more classic hunting knife. G10 scales offer increased grip in wet conditions on the handle but add a bit of weight.

The Speedgoat counters the extra weight of a handle with a 550 paracord-wrapped handle. Paracord lessens hand fatigue and comes in handy if needed in an emergency.

“A reliable knife is an essential part of any hunter’s equipment, and we wanted to bring a custom hand-built blade to our customers that upholds our values of 100% USA-made and performance in the field,” said FORLOH CEO Andy Techmanski.

“We found the perfect collaboration here in Montana with Josh at Montana Knife Company, and are excited to offer two custom FORLOH blades that highlight true American craftsmanship.”
