As overlanding and full-time van life explode in popularity, Ford taps the market with the 2022 Expedition Timberline concept.

Loaded with off-road and off-grid features, the one-off build will show this Friday through Sunday at Overland Expo East at Oak Ridge Estates in Arrington, Virginia. Next, it will be on display at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas from Nov. 2 to 5.

Here’s Ford’s take on overlanding — and everything that comes with it.

The Expedition Timberline off-grid concept focuses on multiday off-roading. A substantial lift gives it a claimed best-in-class 10.6 inches of ground clearance. Hoop steps from DeeZee and a CG Detroit custom topographic-inspired wrap over factory Forged Green paint set it off.

FOX Performance Elite Series 2.5-inch shocks with Dual Speed Compression adjusters and remote reservoirs help the off-road ride. Seventeen-inch Method Race wheels with Bead Grip technology are wrapped with 35-inch General Grabber tires.

Mobile campsite accessories include a Thule Tepui Explorer rooftop tent, a factory-available transmission shield, Overland Vehicle Systems’ Nomadic 180-degree retractable awning, and an outdoor shower from Wild Land.

Light bars from Rigid mount to the roof and grille, and D-SS Rigid side shooter cube lights sit atop the hood. The liftgate, and even the wheel wells, also get lighting. The flip of a switch turns all the lights red.

Inside, a custom aluminum EZ STAK storage drawer sits under a Luno camping mattress with room for two. Further creature comforts include window shades, a bed extender, and a Clarios AGM battery specifically designed for digital nomads.

A Turtleback Expedition series trailer completes the concept and matches the Expedition Timberline concept with Method wheels and Grabber all-terrain tires.

It packs a two-burner propane stove and deep-well sink, a pair of drop-down tables, a 42-gallon water tank, and a 6-gallon water heater with an external shower hookup. It also includes a refrigerator and a 100W solar panel.

Whether or not you can get your hands on it, the Expedition Timberline makes for enticing eye candy. If nothing else, it’ll give you an idea of how to trick out your own ride. The non-Timberline Ford Expedition MSRP starts at $50,595.
