With the release of its GO Air TONES true wireless earbuds, the audio brand moves past tone-deaf design conventions.

This week, JLab announced presales for the first-ever skin tone earbuds. In the initial production round, GO Air TONES true wireless earbuds will come in seven shades of lab-developed colors that correspond to a great range of complexions.

“Until now, there wasn’t an earbud option available in a range of nuanced, neutral, inclusive color choices,” the company stated in its press release.

But appearance isn’t the only edge the TONES have on the bottomless wireless earbud market. A slimmer profile, lighter weight, and almost-weird price tag ($20 MSRP) are all part of the GO Air TONES package. Let’s see what else these little tweeters have going on.

With the GO Air TONES, JLab showcases its lightest form factor to date. Absent the charging case, the skin tone-matching earbuds are 40% lighter and 15% smaller than last year’s generation of GO Air earbuds.

On the sound end, the neutral ‘buds use 6mm neodymium dynamic drivers and three discrete EQ modes — JLab Signature, Bass Boost, and Balanced.

Industry-standard battery time (around 32 hours with a charged-up case), light-duty IPX4 sweat resistance, and dual connect Bluetooth 5.0 tech round out the GO Air TONES earbuds’ feature set.

The company tapped ORLY Color Labs for color matching guidance. Experts zeroed in on the seven tones seen above, which they claim are the most widely complementary tones according to data and lab analysis.

JLab’s close-to-custom matching experience will extend to end users, too. Potential buyers can try JLab’s augmented-reality fitting room filter to find their best match. Each pair’s color extends to the portable charging case, USB cable, and three included sets of gel ear tips.

JLab credits customer feedback that requested subdued color options as the catalyst behind the GO Air TONES lineup. In keeping with its “customer satisfaction” vibes, JLab will direct buyers of its skin tone earbuds to an online feedback form where it can solicit suggestions for later production runs.

“JLab has always made a lot of noise in this industry by creating products that stand out in features, quality, and their accessible price,” said Win Cramer, JLab’s CEO. “GO Air TONES offers great-sounding earbuds that are designed to be heard, but not seen.”
