We reported on an “Eagle Cam” streaming live from a bald eagle nest earlier this spring, but if you like your cyber-wildlife viewing more waterfowl oriented, there is another option.

The Common Loon is the state bird of Minnesota and for about 10 years the birds have captivated online fans via a Live Loon Cam on Minnesota Bound.com. Just a heads up — the stream opens with a 20-second ad.

This year’s loon has already laid two eggs. The incubation period is about four weeks, and wildlife fans are anxiously gathered around their screens to watch as it gets close to hatching.

‘Loon Cam’ view

The Loon Cam nest is in central Minnesota and is set up each year by loon expert Larry Backlund. He writes about the birds on his blog.

Updates on the nesting loon are posted regularly at the Live Loon Cam Facebook page. — Amy Oberbroeckling
