The story behind Alpacka Raft is delightfully wholesome: It all comes back to the relationship between a mother and her son.

That’s not to suggest that Sheri Tingey is “just” a mother. Her expertise in handmade apparel resulted in the lightweight boats sold by Alpacka Raft, a company she started at age 50 with her son, Thor.

“Sheri Tingey defied the odds and expectations of those around her by starting a company at age 50 that revolutionized the outdoor industry [and] changed the way paddlesports in the backcountry are viewed around the world,” the teaser reads. Simply put, she’s a boss.

While you can watch several teasers for the documentary, you’ll have to fork over some bucks to watch the whole thing. Paying $15 to the 2023 Paddling Film Festival will give you access to this award-winning short film (as well as 10 other stellar documentaries about paddling, adventure, and watersports).
