In a sea of leather and silicone, Suunto’s new watch strap stands out.
There’s a new accessory on the fitness watch market: a non-silicone watch strap. A limited-edition Suunto 7 with the brand’s new microfiber strap quietly came to market in the midst of the 2020 holidays. Now, the microfiber strap is finally available, sold separately, for all Suunto users.
Suunto developed its microfiber strap to be a welcome alternative to the industry standard of silicone straps. Yes, there are other options like braided webbing, Velcro straps, and leather (not great for sweaty activities). But none of these consistently delivers on durability, everyday style, and function.
Enter Suunto’s microfiber material. It looks sleek and stylish for everyday use but also has protective and odor-resistant properties that make it great during activity too. And while soft, it doesn’t rub, slip or slide around on the wrist.
“[The microfiber strap] delivers an uncommonly comfortable fit, breathability, and moisture-wicking [properties] while exercising, and a smart aesthetic for those important video conference calls,” Suunto’s PR team wrote.
We’ve been testing it for several weeks and love the soft and well-fitting material. We also appreciate that, if it gets wet, it doesn’t warp and dries quickly. Same if you’re returning from a sweaty run — it’s easy to spot clean, then wear to the office later, good as new.
The microfiber strap is a double layer of microfiber textile in a soft graphite color, or black if that’s your thing. It’s compatible with the Suunto 7, Suunto 9, Suunto 9 Baro, and Suunto Spartan Sport watches. (It also fits on the Suunto D5 dive computer, although Suunto didn’t design this strap for diving.)
All in all, it’s a welcome addition to current choices on the market.
