Join nine of the most influential angling instructors in the world at the School of Trout, an educational fly fishing experience like no other.

Rig up your rod and prepare for tight lines. You’re headed to world-class waters to learn from some of the best anglers in the world.

This fall, School of Trout will guide 12 students through a their week-long “Basic Trout” fly fishing course. The class promises to include just about anything that has to do with walk-and-wade fly fishing.

It will be the one and only class of its kind this year, taking place in Idaho from Oct. 7–13. The course will be held at the TroutHunter Lodge on the Snake River’s infamous Henry’s Fork.

Basic Trout will cover foundational fly fishing education: equipment, reading water, and understanding aquatic bugs, knots, casting, and more.

School of Trout is an original educational concept. While some multi-day schools prepare fishing guides for work, they have a different scope not intended for amateur anglers. Other educational experiences are generally single-day overviews.

“It’s not just about catching trout,” said School of Trout founder Todd Tanner. “That’s a big part of it, obviously, but our main focus is on giving our students the tools and knowledge they need to truly enjoy themselves. We want our students to get the absolute most out of their time on the water.”

The dozen selected students will spend seven days at the TroutHunter Lodge near Last Chance, Idaho. They will learn from a cadre of nine experts, the industry’s best authors, editors, photographers, conservationists, artists, and more.

The lodge, curriculum, instructors, and waters to be fished are all world class, according to Tanner. Instruction will come from Tanner and experts Tom Rosenbauer, Bob White, Craig Mathews, Kirk Deeter, John Juracek, Tim Romano, Hilary Hutcheson, and Steve McFarland.

We know several of these folks and can attest that it’s a star-studded cast.

With the world-class instruction and location comes a hefty price tag. The Basic Trout offering for 2018 will cost selected participants $7,950 for the week. This includes lodging, meals, and instruction. Participants will cover additional funds for travel, fishing gear, and appropriate licenses.

So consider it a bucket list offering, or one for those with very thick wallets.
