Everest Summit, Speed Climbing Record: Adventure News of the Week

From the inspiring to the tragic, ‘Adventure News of the Week’ presents a wrap-up of top news in the world of exploration and adventure.

EVEREST: Climbing Team Summits Everest Amidst Global Pandemic. A Chinese team pulled a Hail Mary this week after failing to summit Everest twice previously this season. The climbers left Advanced Base Camp on Sunday and reached the summit today.

The group is a rope-fixing team working alongside Chinese surveyors, who plan to summit later this week. This team includes Dorjee Tsering, Tenzing Norbu, Dunpa, Tashi Gombu, and Tsering Norbu, and Dorjee.

CLIMB: Climbers Set New Speed Record on The Naked Edge. Climbing partners John Ebers and Ben Wilbur set a new speed record this past Friday on The Naked Edge route in Eldorado Canyon in Colorado.

They climbed the famous 5.11 multipitch route in 24 minutes and 14 seconds, bettering the previous time set by just 15 seconds. Watch the raw footage of the speed climb here.

SKI: Arapahoe Basin First Resort in Colorado to Reopen With Reservations. Spring skiers rejoice, A-Basin is reopening — but with significant changes to keep visitors safe. Reservations will be required for all pass-holders and visitors.

The resort, which opens Wednesday for skiing, opened up reservation signup online yesterday. The demand for reservations was so great that the reservation system crashed. But don’t worry, A-Basin is working on a solution that will be online later today.
