The woman who posted photos of herself to Facebook with a skinned husky, which she claimed was a wolf she had shot and killed, pled no contest to an animal cruelty charge in Montana yesterday.

Amber Barnes, who was 36 when she shot the dog, received the misdemeanor charge from a judge in Flathead County District Court. She’ll face a 6-month deferred sentence, according to local KPAX 8 news. According to Montana law, that means she’ll be on probation for 6 months. If she fulfills the court’s requirements, it will remove the charge from her record.

Barnes must also complete an online hunting course and cannot use her hunting rifle during her probation, KPAX 8 reported, and she initially received a $585 fine, which was later suspended.

Barnes attracted a lot of attention for her mistake last fall, when she took to Facebook displaying a dog’s remains, saying she had “smoked a wolf pup.”

The husky she shot and killed was one of a handful of young dogs someone dumped near Kalispell, Mont., a Flathead County Sheriff’s spokesperson said. Many had parvo, but each dog except the one Barnes killed was recovering as of the incident.
