Our third episode on the new “Fast & Light” video channel launches today, “The Hardest Hiking Trail in the East.” In early October, we hiked the 25-mile Devils Path through New York’s Catskill Mountains, a trail often given the “hardest hike” moniker because of the ridiculous amount of climbing and descending hikers face — about 14,000 feet total! — as the path ascends six major peaks in the Catskill preserve. With cameraman T.C. Worley, friend Brian Leitten and I laced up our boots late on a Monday night and headed into the woods for the fast trip. The journey starts in New York City and includes, literally, planes, trains, and automobiles — not to mention hiking boots and a bike at the end — to enable us to complete the route.
