In honor of Earth Day, Leave No Trace started a hashtag, #leavenotrash, and inspired hundreds to clean up trash in their area.

For this year’s Earth Week, the Leave No Trace Center rallied on social media to spur a movement and clean up our wild spaces in the process. People took to the trails, rivers, and wilderness to pick up trash.

Every piece of refuse picked up and packed out helps improve our experiences and preserve our environment for future travelers. These five caught our eye and left us scratching our heads.

1. Miles Of Fishing Line

2. Car Wheel And 4×4

A post shared by @florularenew on

“Is it even a successful litter pick-up unless you pull a 4×4 and tire out of the creek?” wrote Instagram user @florularenew.

3. Tires And Children’s Playset

A post shared by Rachel Lynn Scott (@justascgirl) on

Three canoes can haul out a lot of trash, as demonstrated by Instagram user @justascgirl. It appears a huge part of a child’s playset with a steering wheel was pulled from the river. That and three whole tires.

4. Unidentified Trash

A post shared by Big Agnes (@bigagnes_) on

@bigagnes found some sort of dirty white cloth in the middle of a grassy field. Any guesses on what it could be?

5. Baseball In The Forest

A post shared by GearJunkie (@thegearjunkie) on

As for GearJunkie’s weirdest find? A baseball, nowhere near a baseball field.

Bonus Trash Find

Perhaps the weirdest to GearJunkie’s knowledge, last year, the Packing It Out crew found an entire mattress along the Pacific Crest Trail. Talk about not-ultra-light.

Of course, it’s never too late to pick up trash. If you missed the chance to post your trash in honor of Earth Week, just remember the real reason you’re picking up trash is to clean up our shared sacred wild spaces.
