Minimal Jacket ‘Checkered’ For Performance — Paper-thin fleece squares affixed inside in a check pattern greet a wearer of this Brooks-Range jacket. Named the Lt. Breeze Wind, this minimal coat is of the type that could literally blow away, its 20d nylon comprising a shell that weighs mere ounces and balls up small.

It’s not waterproof (just resistant), but wind shells like this give you insurance against unpredictable conditions by offering a thin buffer from the elements.

But they often leave you feeling clammy, particularly if you are working up a sweat. The Lt. Breeze Wind attempts to wick sweat and keep its nylon from sticking to warm skin via the spongy, thin squares of fleece inside.

End weight is an airy 5.5 ounces. Brooks-Range will sell it in 2015 for $120.
