1994 – DOLORES, CO: Osprey moves into a former Gore-Tex factory in Dolores, Colorado. A new skilled workforce is hired, primarily from Navajo Reservation.

1998 – ERGOPULL HIPBELT: Osprey ErgoPull hipbelt closure introduced.

1998 – STRAIGHTJACKET: Osprey introduces the Straightjacket compression system.

2001 – PUBLICITY: Aether pack graces the cover of Time magazine.


2001, “Aether 60.” This is the first incarnation of the Aether, in the form of an internal frame pack. It’s an early example of Osprey’s “Straightjacket” compression. This pack featured fiberglass struts and the “Chainlink” dobby fabric, very lightweight for its time.

2002 – VIETNAM: Osprey begins to move production offshore to Vietnam. By 2003, partners Mike Pfotenhauer and Diane Wren move their family to Ho Chi Minh City, to oversee operations for the next four years.
